4 year-old, Debashish Gorai came to Bikash in August 2015 with Cerebral Palsy and speech problems. When he first came to our centre, he could not stand or walk independently. Our assessment revealed that he had delayed physical development. His parents had always carried him and had made no effort to teach him to stand.
An intervention plan was set up encompassing physical, communication and self-care skills: particular importance was put on physical therapy, like weight bearing on both feet, walking in a straight line, walking with a rotator and “K” walker.
After only six months of regular physical therapy by the therapist and follow-up sessions by the school teachers there has been a remarkable result. Debashish can now stand and walk independently.
We expect that he will improve even faster if he practices regularly.
